Article Title: Design and Development of Micro-Turbine Coupled Compressor for Air-Conditioning System in Automobiles

The use of the high kinetic energy in the exhaust gas from the engine to power a micro-turbine coupled to the compressor of an automobile (conceptualized) is possible as revealed by the design, construction and test of this present investigation. The thermodynamic analysis of the engine coupled to the air conditioner reveals a gain of 17 % in the effectiveness of compression ignition (CI) engine on the conceptual mode of powering the compressor at any given combustion temperature as against that of the conventional, where the engine directly power the compressor. For spark ignition (SI) engine the gain in effectiveness decreases with increasing combustion temperature attaining a value of 2% at combustion temperature of 1400K. This technology brings to a strong exigency of new systems for automobile space cooling with the possibility to obtain a primary energy diversification resulting in fuel economy and better lifespan of the engine.
