Article Title: Optimal Economic Retrofit of Heat Exchanger Network

The application of Linear Programming to minimize utility cost is considered most attractive perhaps because of the central role energy plays in global economy and indeed in the Nigerian economy. This work is therefore focused at proper energy management in an energy recovery system being a heat exchanger network (HEN). The chosen case study is the pre-heat train of the Port Harcourt Refinery due to its energy intensive nature. The purpose of this work is the determination of minimum utility requirements for optimal energy recovery. The data as shown in the work was obtained form the Refinery process flow charts and automated control readings. It was discovered that utility requirements could be optimal reduced by this approach hence cost savings could accrue.
