Over the years, the success or failure of large software projects have been studied and the results of such research has helped in the formulation of better methods for developing and maintenance of software systems. The development of a universitys portal involves much collaboration between the builders and the users while the role of management is not neglected and the success of such a portal affects positively the service delivery efforts of the university to students, staff and other members of the public. The present paper studies the factors that led to a momentary failure in the web portal of the University of Benin from the perspective of management and administrators, the problems experienced and the efforts made in tackling the problems.
