Article Title: Evaluation of Multithreading in Multicore Processors

A multicore processor is a processing system composed of two or more independent cores in a single physical package. The multicore processor has many advantages over a single core processor in performing multitasking operation. Cores in multicore systems may implement architectures such as superscalar, vector processing, or multithreading. Now a day, multicore and multithreading systems are widely used. While these two technologies are widely used, it is not clear which one would perform better and which hardware configuration is optimal for a specific target domain. In this paper, we investigate the effect of multithreading on the performance of multicore processors. Our evaluation helps in determining the best cache architecture and configuration for a given number of cores/threads to obtain the good performance. It also based on a cache simulator that models the functionality of a multicore cache hierarchy with arbitrary levels and various organizations.
