Article Title: Antibacterial Activities And Phytochemical Screening Of Aloe Vera (A Babardensis), Garlic (A Sativum) And Ginger (Z Officinale)
by Abdullahi D. K., Michael O. O., Indabawa I. I.

Antibacterial activities and phytochemical screening of Aloe vera (A babardensis), garlic (A sativum) and Ginger (Z. officinale) was investigated using Water and ethanol as solvent. Disc diffusion methods were employed in carrying out the antibacterial activities. The results show that ethanol extract of the plant materials gave the widest zones of inhibition compared to the aqueous extract on all the test organisms except S. Typhi. It was observed that the solvent of extraction and its varying concentration affected the degree of sensitivity of the test organisms. The antibacterial activities of the plant material are attributed to be as a result of secondary plant metabolites known as phytochemical present in this plant material. The phytochemical screening shows the presence of Tannin, Flavanoids, Phlobatannin in the plant extract, steroid, glycoside and non reducing sugar are absent in the plant material.
Keywords: antibacterial activities, phytochemical screening, tannin, flavanoids, phlobatannin
