Article Title: Some Engineering Applications of Spectralplus Audio FFT Software

This work demonstrate the use of SpectralPlus audio software for practical engineering noise measurements for two automobiles, two electrical generators and two burr mill grinders; all known to be a major noise pollutant in Nigeria. The subtle differences in the noise spectrum of the matched noises sources were identified. The peak frequency and noise level for the Peugeot 504 car was found to be 344.53Hz and 54.38 db (A) (for its engine area) and 355.30Hz and 73.92 for the exhaust area compared to Toyota Carina E car (2153.32Hz and 58.80db (A) (for its engine area) and 139.97Hz and 58.87db (A) for the exhaust area). For the two generator tested, Caterpillar and Simba, peak sound pressure level was 50.04 dB(A) and 54.90 dB(A) at frequencies of 1808.78Hz and 290Hz respectively, that is a difference of 4.86dB(A). The burr millers have much spread noise spectrum that is flat and concentrates around the peak of -26.73dB and -27.50dB. The operators of the burr millers demonstrate aggressiveness to customers and could only hear when the sound is very loud (cut in sound level of -5.03dB to -4.27dB).
